In the historic quarter of George on elegant Caledon Street under the shade of age-old oak trees is this extraordinary 170 year old historic guest house characterized by old fashioned and informal hospitality.

We offer eleven unique, stylish en suite bedrooms and a memorable breakfast. Our place is ideally situated in the heart of George for tourists and corporate guests visiting George, the GardenRoute, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay and Knysna.

The magnificent lounge with original yellow wood floors and ceilings also features a Victorian fireplace where guests can gather around the fire on cool rainy days.

We have eleven en suite guest rooms which differ in style and character, but each with its own charm, furnished with antiques and period pieces.

All are equipped with heaters or under floor heating, coffee/tea trays,
a carafe of sherry, television (M-Net) and other special treats
and amenities.

The magnificent lounge with original yellowwood floors and ceilings, also features a Victorian fireplace where guests can gather around the fire on cool rainy days.

The breakfast room is a cheerful sunny place with an old Dover stove. Here we serve our farmstyle breakfast while guests enjoy a view of the lush garden with George Peak in the background. Breakfast can also be served on the patio.

Garden Route attractions

The house is ideally situated for both corporate guests and tourists who visit the Garden Route, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay and Knysna.
The lovely beaches of Herolds Bay, Glentana and Victoria Bay are all within easy reach.
George also offers lovely park, forest and mountain hikes and a selection of some of the best golf courses in the country. The interesting George Museum is close by.
Local tours, power van trips up the mountain, and Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train trips can all be arranged.
Surfing, diving, fishing, paragliding and hang gliding are some other special attractions.

Directions

From the N2 main road Take the York Street off ramp. Travel up York Street to where you get to a large traffic circle in front of the George Museum. Turn left at the circle (towards Oudtshoorn) and then right into Caledon Street. Die Waenhuis Guesthouse is situated at 11 Caledon Street. From Oudtshoorn Coming into George, keep to the left (Davidson Road) where the road forks at the George Hospital. The fourth road to your left is Caledon Street. Die Waenhuis Guesthouse is situated at 11 Caledon Street.
